Holy Communion, also known as the Eucharist, is a central sacrament in the Catholic Church. It is the culmination of the Christian initiation process, where Catholics believe they receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ. It commemorates the Last Supper, where Jesus shared bread and wine with His disciples and instructed them to “do this in memory of me” (Luke 22:19-20).
After a week of final preparations, today, eleven catechism children received Jesus at the Holy Trinity Church Nagoa. The preparations included spiritual sessions/Lectures etc.

First Holy Communion: Princes and Princesses for a day but…… children of God forever
S. Mendes – SVAS February 2025
Pope Francis spoke warmly about the significance of his first Holy Communion in Buenos Aires, Argentina, recalling that it was a deeply meaningful moment in his life. “at the age of 7, I understood it was a time to encounter Jesus, and I felt so close to Him as if He was embracing me with His love.“
First Holy Communion season is upon us…. What a milestone of Joy! This joy is not only for the communicant and his family but for the church too…. A day filled with Divine happiness and holy innocence…. a day when we received the body of Christ for the first time….
I have had the blessing of helping prepare the young ones for this special day… (I can’t recall precisely how many times). Working with these little ones was both a challenge and a joy. I felt the need to focus on telling them about the goodness of Jesus. We spent time talking about Jesus’ love for them, reading Bible stories, learning about the life of saints and practising how to receive Communion with reverence. It isn’t important to tell the young ones about Jesus, but it’s more significant in making them realise ‘Who is Jesus to them’…. Son of God, a loving brother, my Savior, my best friend, my guide….
I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this journey with the children. It has strengthened my faith and deepened my understanding of how important it is to nurture the next generation in our Catholic faith.
First Holy Communion is not a one-day event but a moment or a unique connection that resonates in the heart, reminding us of Jesus’ presence and love throughout our lives. This day radiates holiness, happiness, and hope to this dark and hopeless world.
Receiving Jesus in Holy Communion is the most important moment of our lives.” – Saint Teresa
